I've been doing some serious summer reading, (by serious, I mean I managed to find time to get to a bookstore) and, having nothing else to mention for teh past, say, month, and wanting to write SOMETHING today, I'm just going to discuss. The most notable book that I wish to gush about is Palaniuk's
Haunted, which would be unreadable to the general populus given how dark and, well, Palaniuk-esque the subject matter is, but I find it entirely comforting that there is a sane and sober person out there that has hit upon a mood that I am working on writing in. If you have a weak stomach you might want to avoid it, but it is a engrossing and ingenious piece of literature for those of a certain temperment. Also picked up Gaiman's
M is for Magic. As an enthusiastic devourer of his work, I was somewhat put off by the nature of the short story collection, that being that the majority of the stories in the book are previously published. Great stories, but you sit down with a new book and you want to meet some new friends, not get in touch with old acquaintances. Re-reading
Lord Vishnu's Love Handles by Will Clarke, a Dallas local and a great humorist who's aforementioned debut novel is a quick and unique read. Wow. All that being said, I suppose I really don't have all that much time for reading, which makes this a short list. I really wish netflix would get their mailing centers on the ball...
