Photography is, in my opinion, an exercise in looking at the world with a different perspective than your average person, and capturing and communicating that perspective. One of the geniuses who taught me photography, Charles DeBus, once illustrated this principal by saying that one can never run out of subjects to shoot, as a month's, or possibly a life's worth of pictures, can be found in your own back yard, your own home and spaces you see every day. You just have to look at them anew, through the filter of a camera lens.
That being said, I've been thinking about the last set of photos I posted, a sort of abstract portrait of Memphis. I really enjoyed that work, that concept, and found myself compelled to try such a series again.
So, I took a walk this weekend in my "back yard," or at least that of my studio in Deep Ellum. I probably will continue working on this thesis of shooting for a while, as I find some amazing and beautiful images hiding in plain view.
