Shot again this weekend with Erin. Attempted to actually make hard decisions about wardrobe and makeup (which I did do, although I don't per se have a purpose in mind, I shoot much more extemporaneously, which is probably why I haven't gotten a shoot scheduled with a model I don't previously know quite yet.) That all being stated, got some good shots which approach print/fashion quality (in my opinion) but I am still at a general loss as to how to really shoot for 'art'. Which brings me to my next point. I decided Sunday, as I slowly fall into certain societies and artistic habits, that there is a hell of a gap between a guy with a camera (no matter how good his eye or knowledge of his art) and a photographer that can honestly approach a shot (or a whole series) with an artistic purpose in mind. I'm struggling with that gap. My work with a model completely displays that, as I'm just test shooting right now to see what comes of it, and manipulating my camera images into the best apparent style. It's all instinct right now, and no thought. Now, I like instinct. I think I am going to go find a copy of Blink (just follow the link, you'll get my point) to investigate the creative instinct. But in the meantime I am hard at work trying to work on a real thesis to shoot with. Now, the leaf-landscape concept (like so) works as such, but it's very much in my own skull right now, need time to tumble around. Stay tuned and I'll explain a thought I want to explore. TTFN.
