I had meant to post these earlier in the week, but was busy. This is the other half of the series of shots that I took last weekend.
The initial thought was to wander my old stomping grounds Downtown, but not much caught my eye, so I ended up trying to find my way down into the Trinity river floodplain. This ends up being harder than one imagines when you have a vehicle, as most of the property bordering the levees is either private property with fences blocking traffic up the levee, or causeways with no access off the road.
It's actually fascinating. The City is attempting to put in a scenic walk along the river, and a tollway (of course the Corps of Engineers has raised big questions about the viability of the project) and yet to actually get anywhere close to the "Scenic" areas, you have to drive through some of the most run down, low property value, industrial sections in the city. There is a much touted scenic overlook park, but to get there you have to park in a private warehouse parking lot and walk along a sidewalk-less road to get to the dusty 200' by 50' lot that is the park.
I'm not trying to be a sourpuss here, the trinity greenbelt is a lovely, undeveloped and overlooked natural place right by downtown. It's hard to find natural places around this massive urban sprawl. And there is one Trammell Crow Lake Park (and boat launch... I didn't even know there was enough river to put a boat in...) which is accessible off of Sylvan Road.
